Desired Character - Lars Longlake
Character Gender - Male
Character House – Longlake
Character Alignment Beyond the Wall, Nights Watch
Character Appearance -
Lars is a tall and lanky youth. He has brown hair flowing down to just below his shoulders. He has a brownish red complexion on his hands, arms, face and neck, everywhere else is pale. He almost always has a small but unkempt beard.
Character's Goals – Help the Nights Watch with the Wildlings and other, more mystical, problems.
Character History thus far –
Lars was born to Mors Longlake. He has grown up beyond the wall in a small hut on the north side of the Antler River. His father has always told him about house Longlake’s history, and Foxhole, the town they preside over, making Lars want to go south. Mors tries to keep him from it though, telling Lars that he is the part of the Longlake line that must help the Nights Watch and stop the Wildlings from crossing the wall.
Due to having a native Wildling for a Mother, Lars does not hold the natural distaste for Wildlings that a Longlake normally would, which only feeds his want to head south and do something else with his life. He has been trained well by his father in Archery and Swordsmanship, but his true strength comes from his connection with his Hawk, Eyes, and his talent for tracking and scouting wildlings and game without being scene, which is expected in his house.
Lars is now heading south due to the death of his Father. Only a few weeks after Lars’s 24th name day is when they attacked. Lars doesn’t truly know what it was that hit the small hut, but he does know that there is no group of Wildlings around that could have tracked Mors, Maddy, and Lars once they escaped from their home. The “Men” attacked during one of the coldest nights in Lars’s memory. They attacked hard and fast, and the three Longlakes barely made it out alive, but that wasn’t what made the attackers different from a normal Wildling attack, it was that they were able to continue to track the Longlakes after they continually double backed on tracks and moved down different paths that would have confused any normal man. Mors was cut down right before Maddy and Lars’s eyes, and after the thing showed the two remaining Longlakes Mors’s severed head Maddy and Lars quickly split up, planning on meeting at Castle Black. Lars stood his ground allowing his mother to gain a considerable head start, almost assuring that he would be chased over her. Unfortunately, when Lars made it to the rendezvous point his Mother never came. He camped out for days while sending Eyes out to watch for her, but she did not come, he then searched the haunted forest himself, but never saw a sign of her.
Character Personality – Lars is fun loving, quick with a joke, and a drinker around his friends. He is shy and reserved though when around ones he does not trust or know. He has a wild rage that he cannot control sometimes. Since his Father’s death and with his Mother missing he is much more serious then he has ever been.
Family Members or Important People – He does not know any of his Longlake relatives and his parents are both gone.
Sample Roleplay – (The night of the White Walker attack)
“This cold is a bad omen.” Lars heard his mother say from the other room. “We need to leave for the south. Mance Rayder knows, that’s why he is building his army. Castle Black will take us in; you have always given the Rangers shelter.”
“Abandon our home due to Mance Rayder being paranoid?” His Father answers back. “He is using this as an excuse to attack the wall; I’ve seen no signs of these 'Others' that you speak of.”
“This cold is a sign, you have to feel this. How long have we been living here, it’s never been this cold.”
Lars now takes interest in the argument and makes his way into the kitchen where he sees his tall father, a basic spitting image of himself with his long brown hair and red skin where his clothes do not cover; his beard is much longer and more unkempt then Lars’s own though. Lars then looks to his mother, the beautiful women for her age that is very short in comparison to the two men, though is normal height in reality. His Mother sees him enter and tries not to look at him, but Lars can see the terrified look on his Mother’s face.
“The Watch could use us either way, Father” Lars chimes in taking his Mother’s side. “If Mance is attacking, our skills and knowledge will help the Watch more at the wall then all the way up here.”
“Will you take the black too, boy?” Mors fires back, “You won’t get to see Foxhole once you join them, and you won’t be bedding any noble girls.”
Lars rolls his eyes at the reply, “I never said I wanted to join them, just stay at the Castle for a time until this whole thing is figured out is all.”
“Humph. They won’t do it; they see us as Wildlings now. Helpful Wildlings sure, but Wildlings none the less, they won’t let us stay there unless we take the black, or at least you do.”
“It’s late let’s just head down in the morning and talk to the Lord Commander about it.” Lars suggests trying to put an end to the discussion.
“It might be too late already, we must go now, the cold is on us.” Maddy calls out not wanting to yield.
Before either of the men can answer Lars’s hawk, Eyes, comes screeching in through a window, bursting open the shutters. The bird lands on Lars’s arm in a panic.
“Wildling raid!” Mors spits, as he quickly moves to gather his weapons. “Ready the horses Lars!”
“It’s not the Free Folk!” Maddy yells as she gets her spear, “It’s them I know it, it’s the Others.”
“Bah! Don’t matter now you get your wish, we ride for Castle Black.” Mors answers.
Lars grabs the longbow and the quiver full of arrows he always keeps by the door, before he runs out to the stables. He quickly readies the horses; they are more frightened than they usually are which starts to worry him. He looks toward the small hut he calls his home, and sees his parents rushing out, armed to the teeth.
“Good work, Boy.” His father says to him as he hops onto his horse.
Lars’s mother just gives him a worried smile as she gets onto hers and the three of them head out. They follow their normal procedure doubling back on their tracks and splitting up for a while just to make their followers do the same. They ride hard and they ride fast, but soon enough Eyes comes flying back to Lars giving the same distress call he had before.
“They’re catching up with us.” Lars says in a worried, but also very confused tone.
“Ride ahead, I will delay them.” Mors replies as he slows his horse.
“No Mors, they are not people! They will catch you and kill you!” Maddy calls out
Mors laughs at her comment. “No one can catch me. We move unseen.”
