House History: Dating back to before the Targaryen Invasion, House Rykker has long been in service to House Baratheon. Known for their loyalty and their calm, even in the face of battle, the Rykkers were a minor noble House that produced good soldiers and good commanders. However, the most important development in recent years has been their elevation to Lord of Duskendale.
This was earned during the reign of King Aerys II when the Defiance of Duskendale and House Darklyn occurred. During this time, Lord Renfred Rykker himself was in the host that Lord Tywin Lannister, Hand of the King. Indeed, Renfred was a member of the Vanguard, managing to slay Lord Denys Darklyn with his own blade and earning favor for his house. After all of House Darklyn was wiped out, House Rykker was given their lands and incomes, making Lord Renfred master of Dun Fort.
During Robert's Rebellion, House Rykker sided with their liege lords, the Baratheons. This time, though, Renfred served as a commander instead of as a direct fighter. Their forces were present at the Battle of Summerhall, the battle of Ashford, the Battle of the Bells, and the Battle of the Trident. They were remembered well by Robert when the time came and because of that, House Rykker was able to swear loyalty directly to the Baratheons of King's Landing, instead of having another liege lord.
When the Greyjoys rebelled, the third son of Lord Renfred, Ser Godric, acted as commander of his father's garrison and was at the Battle of Pyke with King Robert and Lord Stark. He displayed honor and courage above what was expected of him, only being nineteen and not yet having a full year in his spurs. He was among those that rushed through the breach, lead by Thoros of Myr.
For this act, the Rykkers gained even more prestige and respect in the sight of King Robert. As a result, Ser Godric was asked to court and would often compete at the tournaments in King's Landing. Most recently, in a tournament held for Prince Tommen's third name day, Ser Godric won the day, securing lands and an estate for himself, separate from those of his family between the castles of Dun Fort and Rook's Rest that he calls Hammerfast.
