Perhaps the most famous trait is the importance placed on strength and bloodlines, the lords of Silverlight only wanted the strong to rule and wanted large, strong families. The “Trials of Silver” were the tests of endurance that the young Sarenta nobles would be put through to make them strong enough to rule.
House History: House Sarenta is an old house, dating back to before the of invasion of Nymeria, back then they were barely more than a fierce clan of barbarians and confronted Mors Martell and Nymeria early on in their attempts to unite Dorne. House Sarenta was easily overcome, despite the obvious skill of their warriors they were poorly lead. Ever since Sarenta has been loyal to House Martell.
Since then the fortunes of the House have risen and fallen, great figures in their history include Rysgard Sarenta, the brilliant military strategist who lead the house for thirty-two years, to Alaric Sarenta who built the silver mines which brought riches to the house and remained his keep Silverlight (until then called Breakshore), and the wild Ottarn Sarenta who was only lord for four years but in that time created a legend of tragic genius. Despite the brilliant men and women who lead House Sarenta it had more than it’s fair share of vicious and cruel lords. After the utter defeat and submission to the Martells it was believed that it was the strength of the house that had failed an d not long after Lord Lassare Sarenta started the Trials of Silver, putting his nine children through various endurance challenges. It sometimes helped produce strong and capable rulers and other times vicious and cruel tyrants.
The House sigil of flames on silver supposedly came from the legend of the creation of Silverlight, then known as Breakshore. The story was that thousands of years ago a great fire had swept through the desert, destroying everything in it’s path, the original Saren, the man who supposedly founded the house, took what people he could to the coast. Driven to the south east corner of Dorne by the fire the people were trapped until amazingly the fire receded and the people formed a settlement there. There is no real evidence to this legend and few actually believe it, but the people of Silverlight enjoy the story.
House Sarenta followed the Martell in all things, providing strong soldiers whenever needed. When Robert Baratheon started his rebellion House Sarenta stood by the Targaryens. Lord Aurain lead his host north, he was considered a welcome break from the vicious men who had been running Silverlight of late but he was killed during the war and Silverlight was inherited by his brother, Soren. For the past thirty years it had been clear that the silver mines that Silverlight depended on not producing as much silver as before and the fortunes of the house began to decline. Soren did nothing to deal with this and reign as lord is considered one of the worst in recent history.
