Desired Character: Rosaline (Ros) the Whore
Character Gender: Female
Character House: Does a Whore House count? Because it totally should…
Character Alignment: Varys
Character Appearance:
Character Goals:
Ros has spent her life since arriving at King’s Landing trying to survive. Originally when she came up from Winterfell it was her goal to raise herself to a status of possibly running her own whorehouse, some insurance for her later years when her looks started to fade. Now secretly working for Varys, Ros secretly hopes that if she does well for him, he can help her usurp her cruel employer Petyr Baelish, some day taking over his successful house.
Character History:
Born of a small village in the North, Ros is the bastard of a peasant farmer’s daughter. It was rumored amongst her village that Ros’s father was a nobleman’s son, but with her mother not being of noble birth it was never looked into. At the tender age of seven she was sold, under the table, to the whorehouse in Winterfell by her grandfather. The idea was that the sale would give her birth family enough money to make to move somewhere where it would not be remembered that her mother was a disgrace. She does not remember either of them, though she heard in later years that her grandfather was banished for selling slaves. All of this was unsubstantiated rumor however.
Unlike most of the children sold to the house, Ros did not hate working there. She would watch these beautiful women strip men of all their hard earned money and even as a child she could see that power. It fascinated her. As she tended the house, stripping and laundering sheets, serving food and drink, sweeping floors, she watched these women and how they interacted with their clients. She would peek into sessions that the women had with their clients, listen in on conversations. All she learned to keep to herself, but she was a very adept pupil.
As a result she was known as being very chatty and became well loved amongst the patrons as the little redheaded rascal who would arrive at their table with bread, drink and a question in tow.
The older she become, it became apparent very quickly that she was growing into a very beautiful girl. Patrons of the house began to inquire about the redheaded serving girl over the whores. So she graduated. Because she was so beautiful and so new, Ros was the preferred favorite among many of the young noblemen of Winterfell. Despite her lowborn birth, the girl had certainly carved her own way and she lived a fairly happy life. As a result, she became quite prideful, in her work and in herself.
After the royal visit to Winterfell however, Ros saw a new opportunity on the horizon. After bedding a Lannister and being rewarded quite handsomely for her efforts, Ros decided that with her looks, she would make far more coin in a big city like King’s Landing than in North. Maybe even enough to buy a brothel of her own some day. So as people left out to go back to court, Ros hitched a ride with an old client and made her way South. Upon arrival she listened around and found the most prestigious brothel in town, owed by Petyr Baelish. She was quickly accepted into the house.
But life at King’s Landing was not as Ros had suspected. Before, being the most beautiful of her house, she was able to pick and chose her own clients. Now she was one of many beautiful women in the house and could be selected by Pyter for anyone, old men, fat men, boys barely into their teens. She was not happy but she wore the finest cloths and had despite their looks, she still found her way into the beds of very powerful men. She chose to keep her tongue and see how it played out after a few years.
However within months the house began to take its toll on her. Baelish had moved her up within the ranks so that she was teaching the new recruits and she found herself becoming colder, more like Baelish himself. When her house was invaded by the King’s men and one of her girls’ child was killed in front of the lot of them, Ros found herself snapped back to reality. She had never seen a death so unnecessary and brutal in all her days and for weeks she was unable to work. It wasn’t until Baelish threatened her that she was finally able to compose herself again, but she finally realized how disposable she was in this city. She would have to find a way to get out from underneath him.
When she was hired with another girl to bed King Joffrey, Ros was convinced that she had finally arrived. If she could please the king, he could make her his permanent mistress and she could get out from Baelish, collect favors for a few months and then sell them to go back home to Winterfell and build her own house. That night however she learned how truly monstrous the King’s appetites were. She was unable to work for weeks after that. As soon as she was about to walk around again, she was summoned before the queen for what she assumed was hush money, something she would have gladly taken. Instead she was imprisoned for reasons unknown to her. Days later she was brought before Tyrion Lannister, the man she had bedded so long ago in Winterfell. She was beaten once more and finally sent home, never knowing why she had been imprisoned in the first place.
When Varys the Spider approached her, Ros was more than ready to become one of his spies. She longs to hold power over these people who have abused her so, and in the past few months it had become ever so clear to her that the currency of the powerful was not in dollars and cents, but in secrets and lies. She continues to work for Baelish but secretly she acts as a spy to Varys, who has promised to take care of her. At least for now.
Character Personality:
Ros was once a very sweet, funny girl. Apart from her talents with men, she is also very good at listening. But since she has moved to King’s Landing, she has become much colder. After all that she has seen, she is slowly learning how to combine her skills to get what she needs. Seeing her true face, her true personality, is nigh impossible at this point, as she is not completely sure who she is anymore either. She just knows how to play the game and is doing her best to survive so that she might some day be able to make herself a home again.
