Character History thus far
Florien Flowers is the bastard son, concieved during the short relationship between Lord Leyton Hightower and the daughter of an Oldtown tavern owner. Throughout his childhood it was a well known fact amongst the townsfolk that Florien was the baseborn of their Lord and did not treat him any worse than the children he grew up with in Oldtown, although some referred to him as Hightower’s Bastard at time. As a young boy Florien would often ask his mother if his father would allow him to live in a castle with him, to this she always said that it was because Lord Hightower would too old to care for a young child rather than tell him the truth; that his father didn’t care much for a bastard.
When he was sixteen, and desperate to gain some from approval from the father he had never truly known, Florien fought for the crown in the Greyjoy Rebellion. The young soldier was only a boy he set sail for Iron Islands but came back a man and a knight after killing several ironborn warriors after landing on Pyke. When he returned to Oldtown as a knight Ser Florien was acknowledged by Leyton Hightower as his son but was not legitimized nor invited to live in the castle as he had always wanted to as a child but he became reasonably close to his father whilst serving as one of his loyal knights for eight years until he was twenty-four.
Florien’s mother had been his grandfathers only child and had inherited his tavern which was popular with knights and lordlings that often visited Oldtown. On one particular Summer’s day Florien learned that his mother had been beaten and raped by some minor Lord that no one had even tried to restrain due to his title, the young knight hunted the man down and killed him in front of many witnesses, including members of the City Watch. Florien would brought before his Lord father and chose to take the black rather than be executed for his actions; he felt he had done no wrong is defending his honour and that of his mother. Hightower’s Bastard kept his knightly title when he was sent to the Wall, where he has served for two years, for his previous services to the realm.
Character Personality
As a child Florien was a loving son to his mother and got along well with all of the other children in Oldtown, he was a kind boy but was often sad because of the absence of a father in his life. As he grew, so did his hunger for love and respect which lead him fighting the in the Greyjoy rebellion and earning his knighthood.
During his years as a knight in the service of his father Florien was everything people thought a true knight should be; strong, brave, handsome and loyal to his Lord above all others. The only downside was that, being baseborn, he was resented by some townsfolk for how high he had risen and never quite had the respect of some of the other knights that surrounded him.
After his own father sentenced him to either death or a life spent on the Wall, Ser Florien Flowers changed. He could still be considered strong and brave but has not developed a loyalty to the Watch and has become slightly cruel . Florien bullies new recruits that come to Wall as though they are below them and, despite everyone on the wall being equal, he has a tendency to treat anyone that held not titles before they took the black as though they are beneath him.
