House History: House Longstride was established by Alistair Longstride the first, a knight in the service of Aegon. When he decided to conquer the seven kingdoms, he gave Alistair I a contingent of men to command. He was sent to join the army that would take the kingdom of the rock. During the one battle they fought, Alistair I lost most of his men, but he fought bravely and killed several knights before Aegon and his dragons came and incinerated the enemy. After the war, King Aegon awarded him a castle (that had no lord because the previous lord died in battle without heirs) for his bravery during the battle, and he was given the honour of starting a noble house. He was good to his people, and over time they grew to love him.
For the next 300 years, the house was stable, and tightened its grip on Rivershield, making it their home. About a hundred and fifty years ago, the family possessed a valyrian steel sword, named 'River', but they lost it after one of the lord's bastard sons took it and ran off with it. The family tried to recover it for 2 generations but finally gave up. Since then, nobody has ever even bothered to try and look for it.
They supported, and supplied troops to the Tully’s When they joined Robert during Robert's Rebellion. They lost a lot of men and even the lord at that time, Rickard's father, received some severe wounds in the battle that happened right on their doorstep, the battle of the Trident. They were awarded with some dragons and a small commendation, but didn't really gain anything else out of it.
With the outbreak of yet another war, and another lord at the house’s head, it is once again looking to improve its standing.<!---->
