Character Information
Character Name: ----Stannis Baratheon
Gender: ----Male
Character Age: ----34
Character House ----House Baratheon of Dragonstone
Alignment: ----Himself, as the rightful king of Westeros.
Character Appearance ----
Tall, well-built and gaunt of face, with a large jaw covered in a neatly-cropped beard, a rounded nose and close-set eyes shining in the same dark blue as many other Baratheons exhibited before him, Stannis is a man exhibiting an unwavering gaze and an unforgiving physiognomy with no room for smiles. He keeps his hair short, in a soldier's fashion, and so is his clothing: he is almost seldom seen outside of his shirt of mail, studded leather breeches and reinforced boots - or without his longsword strapped to his belt. In battle, he will also don a vest of plate emblazoned with his new coat of arms and plate gauntlets, along with the same black cloak that any of his soldiers may wear.
Whenever something displeases him, he is known to grind his teeth.
Character's Goals: ----
- To sit the Iron Throne, as is his right and duty;
- To bring an end to the Game of Thrones and any of its players who would dare plot against him;
- To abolish prostitution and gambling in King's Landing.
Character History: ----Born as the second son of Lord Steffon and Lady Cassana of House Baratheon, Stannis was a silent and dour child who preferred spending time alone or listening to the maester of Storm's End weaving him tales of honour and duty. Although he was never squired or knighted, he has taken to the martial art of swordplay, much like his older brother grew to like the warhammer just as soon as he was strong enough to wield it, and his childhood and adolescence have been devoid of major events until the day when, as a man nearly grown, he witnessed the death of his parents alongside Robert. That is an event which he refuses to discuss even to this day, decades afterward, and one of the many reasons why his taciturnal nature is nowadays exacerbated.
As a dutiful younger brother, he followed Robert when he chose to take up arms against the Mad King and he is famous for holding the castle of Storm's End throughout the largest part of the conflict, keeping the lord of the Reach and his forces from joining the main Targaryen force and thus weakening the defenders before the onslaught spearheaded by his brother, Lord Eddard Stark and Lord Jon Arryn against the ruler of Westeros. Left without provisions and progressively weakened by the siege, his forces were saved by the man who would then be known as Ser Davos Seaworth, a smuggler whose cargo of food, consisting mostly of onions, sneaked into the castle and offered Stannis' men well-needed supplies before the threat of starvation. After their victory had been achieved, he took the former smuggler into his service and, for his law-breaking past, left him without the first joint of every finger of his left hand.
With his brother taking the throne, he was charged with building a fleet to take one of the final citadels still loyal to the Targaryens, Dragonstone - which was then offered to him, his younger brother receiving Storm's End while he remained to hold and administer the stronghold and its few adjacent lands. After Robert had also named him Master of Ships, a position that granted him a seat on the small council, he took command of the royal fleet during the Greyjoy Rebellion, the victories he won against the Iron Fleet ensuring his brother's land troops the possibility of crossing the sea toward Pyke and taking it, while Stannis himself went to Great Wyk and pacified it in the name of the new King. Soon afterward, he married Lady Selyse of House Florent, officially beginning a cadet House of the Baratheons with his and her blood.
Having received little acknowledgement or thanks from his brother for his deeds of arms or the way in which he helped Jon Arryn, the new Hand of the King, govern the realm, Stannis and the Lord of the Vale uncovered the fact that the children his brother had with his wife and Queen, Cersei, were not truly his. Trusting the Hand to deliver Robert the evidence that they had uncovered, since the man on the Iron Throne cared little for his brother and him doing so might well have not been believed, he waited for his brother to do the right thing, but Lord Arryn was poisoned before he could fulfill his mission and the events following his death, culminating with the badge of the Hand being given to Lord Eddard Stark, drove a final wedge between the two brothers and caused Stannis to return to Dragonstone.
After the death of his brother, he armed himself with the knowledge that he was Robert's true heir and gathered his retinue, as much as Dragonstone and the Narrow Sea could muster, bolstering his forces with sellswords from Lys and Myr and the forces of the known pirate Salladhor Saan, but, even so, his troops were too small in number to single-handedly challenge the pretenders on the field of battle. In the meantime, he has renounced the Faith of the Seven in favour of his wife's new religion, one focused around R'hllor, the Lord of Light; the priestess who converted Lady Selyse, Melisandre of Asshai, has grown to become one of his advisors. Biding his time and unwilling to strike up alliances for obtaining that which he believes is rightfully his, Stannis has informed every lord of the realm of his discoveries and is now building his forces, waiting for the proper moment to strike against the capital.
Character Personality: ----Of the three sons of Steffon Baratheon, Robert was likened to steel and Renly to copper, whereas Stannis was seen much as iron - black, hard, strong and more likely to break than to bend. That description suits him to a certain extent, for his views on honour, duty and justice are oftentimes more archetypal than human. Thus, he sees the world in black and white, with little room for nuances in-between, and he pursues his goals, be they imposed unto him or his own, with a single minded approach that can seldom be seen elsewhere in his life. First and foremost, he is a commander and an administrator, rather than a ruler, and a skilled one at that, as his deeds of arms prove, but that says something about the way in which he leads his life: there are superiors who command and followers who obey, with little room for friends or allies for any hypostasis he's been in. Some have called him dispassionate; in truth, he is nothing of the sort, his emotions being as present and as powerful as for any man - if not even more - , but, much as he does with everything he considers to be his, he controls them, although not with some difficulty. Stubborn, serious and dour, he has never been known to laugh; indeed, many wonder whether he ever could. Instead, he often uses his prodigal memory to think of slights both real and imagined.
An introvert with little tolerance for what he does not accept and little room for acceptance to begin with, Stannis has forsaken much of himself not for the sake of the realm, as some will boast, but for his personal duties, and he expects the world to follow the same rigid moral principles that he has imposed unto himself, proving that he understands little of the grander scheme of things. However, he is a good judge of character, even if his views on various individuals do not stay his hand if they do not comply with his ideals, but those whom he has been able to inspire with his silent demeanor and rigidly-honourable ways will for him to the bitter end. Deep inside, the same fiery passion that made his elder brother King rarely emerges, but, when it does - which is, usually, on the battlefield - it burns with an unbridled light. Even if he abstains from the pleasures of the flesh, as his lady wife may attest, he is still human and even more vulnerable to their seductions, especially when framed within his principles or his true needs. Stannis is a fierce warrior and a killer who may more easily be compared to Baelor the Blessed than his elder brother, although he remains, to some extent, skeptical before his new faith; nevertheless, his sense of duty and honour can be matched by none and he will sacrifice anything to do what he deems to be right.
