House History:
House Birkett gained what little nobility it claims during the Conquest of Dorne, owing to its then patriarch Owen Birkett offering his service as a master smith and carpenter to the war effort despite his being seventy-eight years old. When the officer in charge of the conscription declined this, the eldest son - Walburn Birkett - offered to take up arms and follow Lord Serrett into battle despite being near sixty and in poor health, himself. All three of age sons then exited the household, all of them armed with woodworking tools, crudely armored in rusted iron and uncannily stoic in the face of going into battle. All three of the boys not only survived the war, but were hailed as minor heroes in some small circles for various actions during the conquest.
Bren Birkett was said to have fought off twenty Dornishmen in the span of a minute in order to break the enemy line that kept his troop from forming back up with the rest of force from Highgarden.
Sol Birkett remained humble when admitting to his having maintained and repaired an unknown yet ungodly number of weapons for the invading forces.
Lyle Birkett remained in the military long after the return to the Westerlands, eventually coming to serve in the court of Lord Kenning of Kayce.
Noting the loyalty displayed by the entire family in a time of war, as well as the unexpected fortitude and valor from what were rather undersized young men, Lord Kenning Knighted all five men of the Birkett family, and chartered their House for the smithing and construction of wears as needed by the court. By this, House Birkett has done rather well financially, and continues to be highly regarded in the court of the Kennings of Kayce, even if not overtly. This in turn made an impression upon House Serrett of Silverhill, who eventually allied with the Birketts of Teakford through an arranged marriage that ended up being an especially happy one. House Birkett is now branching out into the construction of seafaring vessels, and House Serrett supports this endeavor through both financing and manpower.
