Events in a World of Ice & Fire
The events revolving around the realms and individuals within the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and the rest of the World, are seemingly in a state of near constant flux and unrest at all times. Men rise to power in the blink of an eye, women pull the strings behind the scenes, while others are cut down, executed or exiled. Kings come and go, wars are fought, battles are won and lost, while heroes and villains rise and fall. Almost too much to fully understand and keep track of.
Within this thread there will be a chronological index of all the events of importance that happen within the world, each with a short summary and a link to the corresponding threads.
When You Play the Game of Thrones, You Win or you Die Ned Stark, having uncovered the truth about King Joffrey’s parentage, is betrayed and sentenced to death. He is given the option to take the Black, if he’ll set aside his honour and admit guilt for treason; he does, to protect his capture daughters, but is betrayed once more and then beheaded. Outraged at his murder, his eldest son and not Lord of Winterfell, Robb Stark, rallies the North and the Riverlands and declares war on the South for their crimes.
The Lion, The Twins and the Secret Alliance Knowing his actions will cause war between the North and South, King Joffrey Baratheon and a singular member of the famed Kingsguard, Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, travel in secret to The Twins, ancestral home of House Frey. There he seals the armies of the North above the Neck, by forming a secret alliance with House Frey; but at what price?
A Dornish Plan in the Ice Exiled to The Wall, in the icy North of Westeros, Josmyn Sand finally sees the devious plan, set about by his Sand Snake sisters to punish their father, Oberyn “The Red Viper” Martell, for the exile of their brother, come to fruition. The result? Josmyn attempts a daring escape from The Wall with the Florien Flowers, deserting his Black Brothers of the Night’s Watch.
| Fury of the Warring Stags With most of the Stormland Lords behind him, and the full strength of House Tyrell, Renly Baratheon meets hid brother Stannis on the field of battle to negotiate terms, though Stannis refuses to surrender his rightful claim to the Iron Throne. That night Stannis refuses Melisandre’s council, deciding to battle his brother honourably, despite the odds. That very same night Renly falls ill, and many of his Stormland Lords desert him for Stannis, though the Tyrells continue to support the younger brother. With his forces diminished and his chances of victory far less certain, Renly and the Tyrells retreat back to the Reach. |
| The Battle of the Whispering Woods Robb Stark and the armies of the North begin their journey south, though when they reach the Twins they discover that House Frey is unwilling to let them cross. With little other choice, the Northmen he back up the river, crossing it before the Twins and eluding House Frey as they continue to head South. Not long after, the North and South engage in battle, and thanks to a clever diversion from Robb, they are able to ambush a smaller Lannister force in the Whispering Woods, capturing the one and only Jamie Lannister in the process. |
| We Do Not Sow Returning home, Theon Greyjoy offers a proposal from Robb Stark, recently proclaimed King of the North, that would grant the Iron Islands Independence and make Balon Greyjoy it’s King. The old Kraken refuses the offer proclaiming himself King of the Iron Islands anyway. With Theon choosing to forsake Robb and the North to stay with his family, King Balon Greyjoy declares war on the Seven Kingdoms. |
| A Crow Come Over With all the Wildlings mysteriously vanishing, the men of the Night’s Watch range into the Lands of Always Winter, far beyond the Wall, in search of answers. Jon Snow finds himself cut off from his Black Brothers and alone with a Wildling captive, a fiery woman by the name of Ygritte, who then manages to trick the young Bastard and capture him in turn. Captured alongside Qhorin Halfhand, Jon is forced to fight for his life when the Halfhand decides that Jon has to join the Wildlings to learn their plans. After reluctantly killing Qhorin, with the help of Ghost, Jon is accepted by the Wildlings and brought to the King Beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder. |
| The Battle of the Blackwater With Renly having retreated back to Highgarden, Stannis decided to march on Kingslanding and take the Iron Throne by force. Sending the majority of his forces by sea, by way of Blackwater Bay, he unwillingly sailed directly into a trap laid out by Tyrion Lannister, the Hand of the King. Wildfire illuminated the bay, almost wiping out Stannis' fleet in it's entirety, but despite this devastating blow Tyrion Lannister and his forces at Kingslanding were still heavily outnumbered, and defeat seemed inevitable. However, with King Joffrey fleeing the battlefield, Tyrion gravely injured and all hope seemingly lost, Tywin Lannister arrives with his Lannister forces and drives Stannis back, defeating his armies and saving the capital. |
| Battle of the Fist of the First Men Having taken 300 men of the Night's Watch beyond the Wall to halt the impending Wildling attack, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont chooses the Fist of the First Men as his base of operations while he waits for Jon Snow's patrol to return. However, during the night the men of the Night's Watch are come upon by the Others, number hundreds strong. A fierce battle ensues, but in the end the men of the Night's Watch are no match for the cold, undead creatures. Sounding a retreat, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont rounds up fifty surviving men and flees back to Craster's Keep to regroup...though that's when the next disaster occurs. |
