As this thread here depicts, Nash wants to fund an expedition to explore Valyria. After having spoken about it with Jon and Josmyn (in chronological order), I've decided to try and involve any other interested characters in this endeavour.
What have I got so far?
- Nash has studied a number of tomes on Valyria and the Doom, to see just how feasible something like that might be, but has found little in the way of an actual explanation related to what happened to devastate those lands in the first place. He has also been in contact with a number of merchants, trying to find out how the Smoking Sea is like nowadays. There are also a few (NPC) maesters actively looking for whatever they can find about it.
- To get one such expedition on the road (or the water, in this case), additional funds are needed, as well as a team of (would-be) explorers, a manned ship of utmost quality and a captain insane enough to go with them and, if at all possible, bring them back.
- I would like to make this group apolitical to begin with (so people of any affiliation could join), but Jon has suggested that it support the Targaryens at some point and I rather liked the idea; if we make it work, we'll see where it takes us.
- This would be a secret society of sorts (possibly one where all are equal, be they rulers, lords, knights, maesters, sellswords, merchants or whatever else). Communication would be coded and any IC discussions about it would have to be kept in utmost secrecy.
- Speaking of rulers, Stannis might like a go at it too.
Well, that's the idea, as much as it's been fleshed out in my head so far. What do you fine people think?
